Milestone Birthday

My Aunt Eva in Pennsylvania is celebrating her 75th birthday this week. She has always been one of my favorite relatives and is now my only remaining Aunt. (Unfortunately, that happens as you get older - did I just have another birthday recently? - oh well.) I wanted to send a little surprise in her birthday card so I made this little heart (4"x 4") to let her know how much I love her. The center heart is beaded cross stitch on perforated paper and the rest is wool felt with more beads. I hope she has a wonderful celebration!

Last night I finally finished Lord John and the Brotherhood of the Blade. (Linda, see you at Foster on Wednesday.) It's basically a murder mystery with other stuff - war, politics, a little hot gay romance, thrown in. Not as good as the Outlander Series but Lord John is one of the story lines in the latest Outlander - An Echo in the Bone - so I wanted to catch up on his character before I started reading Echo.

One of the Coffee Jam quilters loaned me a Sharyn McCrumb novel - The Songcatcher. A long time agoI read She Walks These Hills also by McCrumb and just loved it.  I can't decide if I'll take a break from the 18th century and read that or go on to Lord John and the Hand of Devils.

Aund Eva will love your gift,Lisa, and that you remembered her. Little things mean a lot to us "old folks". Very thoughtful of you. Daisy

I agree with Daisy --- a lovely, thoughtful gift. I read "Lord John and the Private Matter" a couple of years ago --- was not quite so smitten with this series, so haven't gotten back to it. ...and I haven't read any of the other author you mentioned --- will have to put her on my list. I have to "gird my loins", so to speak, before starting any of the Outlander series --- they require an enormous amount of time --- but I really enjoy them.

I haven't been able to get into the Lord John books yet. Maybe later!

I really like Sharyn McCrumb's books tho - Rosewood Casket was good and the Elizabeth MacPherson mysteries, as well as the Appalachian books. I've read many of her books - enjoyable reads.

Wow!, Lisa,

that beaded and cross-stitched heart is gorgeous - I was able to make it bigger and see the details. I'm sure that your aunt will feel the love. We're in Madison, creeping up on Tallahassee, and are doing our best not to freeze in our tents. Thanks for the nice send-off in MI - that seems like such a long time ago! The drive to Jan's mother's place was intense, both weather-wise and time/distance-wise. But she's on her way, and Doing It!!! Yea! X O
